AMISH COUNTRY – HOLMES COUNTY AND VICINITYAlthough Ohio’s Amish live the simple life, traveling the country roads by horse and buggy, visitors to Amish country can still see the sights from the comfort of their cars. Large, white-painted farmhouses are scattered across the green fields. Rows of handmade dresses and work pants hang to dry in the sun. Barefoot boys wearing suspenders stroll alongside the road. In nearby Berlin you can sample great Amish cooking, tour the many shops and enjoy the beautiful countryside. BIKING TRAILSKokosing Gap Trail - 13.2 mile paved trail from Mt. Vernon to Danville. Trail18.3 mile paved trail from Butler to Mansfield runs through picturesque farmland and crosses the Clear Fork Mohican river five times MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE -LEXINGTONThis 2.4–mile road course boasts six national and international motorsports events during its season. Jeez www.malabarfarm.org MOHICAN STATE PARK AND FORESTMohican State Park and the adjacent State Forest are located in the heart of Mohican Country...Ohio's best vacation region. The park is comprised of 1,110 acres with 5 miles of the scenic Clear Fork Branch of the Mohican River running through it. The Mohican Memorial State Forest surrounds the park with 4,795 acres. The recreational opportunities include fishing, hiking, hunting, and bridle trails. FIRE TOWER CLIMB – MOHICAN STATE FORESTClimb 80 feet to the top of a restored fire tower for a panoramic view of the Mohican area. One of only 7 towers remaining in Ohio, this is must see for all area visitors LYONS FALLS – MOHICAN STATE PARKLyons Falls is a 50' rock cave with a falls over it. John Chapman, immortalized as Johnny Appleseed, frequented the region during the 1800's, caring for his apple tree nurseries. His name and the date, carved in the wall of Lyons Falls, were an attraction for years. Unfortunately, the etchings have been obliterated with the passage of time. The trail is right next to the Clear Fork river with beautiful views of the gorge to the right and the river to the left. Abandoned in 1990, the original cellblocks and administration areas remain intact. Four major motion pictures have been filmed on location, including “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Air Force One.” Listed on the nation Register of Historic Places, tour admissions are applied directly to the preservation of the building. Kingwood is the 47-acre former estate of Charles K. King. The grounds are renowned for both their historic significance and the brilliant floral displays of the new gardens. The French Provincial mansion contains many rooms decorated with Mr. King’s original furnishings and one of Ohio’s outstanding horticultural libraries. An elegant greenhouse features year-round displays and plant sales. Fifty-nine life-sized dioramas accompanied with special effects and an audio text will provide for you an experience you will never forget. EMCO GEARS CLASSIC – MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE JUNE 19-21The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series kicks off the first green flag of the 49th season of racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course drops on the EMCO Gears Classic. The series’ two classes jockey for track position at the same time as the Daytona Prototypes and GT machines compete during the twilight hours on Saturday.
